Facebook is an American online social networking and social media service website launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg. Now it is the principal digital public square of people which has become an extremely important virtual venue. Facebook can be accessed from a large number of devices having Internet connectivity, such as PC's, laptops and tablet computer and smartphones. After the registration process, users can create a customized profile specifying their name, occupation, schools attended and so on. Users can add other users as their 'friends', exchange messages, post status, share photos, videos, and links, use multiple software applications and receive notifications of other users activity. Additionally, users can also join common-interest user groups organized by workplace, school, hobbies or other topics. As a matter of fact, there are so many things you can do on Facebook that you probably don't know. Actually, we are talking about all the official, baked-in, easily accessible functions just a few clicks away.
News FeedThe news feed is the primary method through which users are exposed to the content posted on the network. Facebook selects a handful of updates to actually show it's users, every time they click their feed, out of an average of 1500 updates they can eventually receive.
Friends"Add friend" is the act of sending a friend request to another user of Facebook. The two people are Facebook friends if the receiving party accepts the friend request. In addition to accepting the request, the user can also use the option of declining the friend request or hiding it by clicking on the "Not Now" button. Deleting a friend request erases the request, but it does allow the sender to resend it in the future. The "Not Now" feature hides the request but doesn't remove it, allowing the receiver to revisit the request later on. It is also possible to remove a user from one's friends list, which is referred to as "unfriending" someone on Facebook.
WallThe Wall is the original profile page where Facebook users' content was displayed. It allowed the posting of the messages, often short or temporal notes, for the user to see while displaying the time and date the message was written. A user's Wall is visible to anyone with the ability to see the user's full profile, and friends' Wall posts appeared in the user's News Feed. In December 2011 the Wall has been replaced by the Timeline profile layout.
TimelineIt is intended to renovate users' profiles in order to show content based on year, month and date. "Cover" photos are a significant portion of the top of the page and there is a display of personal information such as friends, likes, and photos which appears on the left-hand side, whereas story posts appeared on the right.
Likes and ReactionsThe like button, was first introduced on 9 February 2009, which enables the user's to interact with status updates, comments, photos, videos, and advertisements. Once clicked by a user, the designated content appears in the Newsfeed of that user's friends and the button also displays the number of other members who have liked the content. Facebook officially rolled out "Reactions" to users worldwide on February 24, 2016, which allowed users long-press on the like button for an option to use one of five emotions, including "Love", "laughter", "Wow", "Sad", or "Angry".
CommentsWhenever something is posted on a user's timeline or page there is a section of comment, through which a friend or follower of that person or page can give his opinion about the post. To mark the 30th anniversary of the GIF, Facebook has introduced a new feature allowing users to add GIFs to the comments section. This feature can be accessed by clicking the GIF button located beside the emoji picker. Users can choose from the available GIFs obtained from Facebook's GIF partners, but cannot upload other GIFs.
Messages and inboxFacebook Messenger allows Facebook users to send messages to each other. Complementing regular conversations, through Messenger users can make voice calls and video calls both from one-to-one interactions to group conversations.
